What we do

A global private equity and marketable securities firm, Zephyr Management, L. P. manages specialized investment funds in both the developed and developing markets. Since 1994, Zephyr has sponsored twenty-two funds with approximately $1.7 billion in committed capital which are managed from offices in New York, London, Bangalore, Johannesburg and Accra. With a global network of partners, Zephyr is positioned to identify sustainable secular growth changes which lead to attractive investment opportunities for our investors.

While Zephyr’s focus is on the creation and execution of innovative investment strategies, our operating style is conservative. Managers are held strictly to their respective investment mandates and investments are selected based on rigorous fundamental research. Today, Zephyr manages investment funds in the U.S., Latin America, Asia, and Africa and we are actively researching new investment opportunities around the world.

In December 2008, Zephyr entered the wealth advisory segment through the formation of Plimsoll Mark Capital. Plimsoll delivers independent solutions to wealthy families, including financial planning, asset allocation, tax & estate planning strategies, money management selection and income planning.

The investment process

The process of selecting a new investment strategy begins with a “macro phase” in which Zephyr searches the globe to find regions with favorable macro elements, such as economic growth, political stability, and promising demographics. The investment selection process is intensive. In a complex and dynamic economy such as India’s, for example, Zephyr has tracked macro trends for years — gathering insights through both formal and informal contacts with experts.

Once a region has been identified as having favorable macro-dynamics, Zephyr enters its “micro phase,” and studies the area for an extended period in order to devise a particular strategy to capitalize on the specific investment opportunity which has the potential to realize superior returns. Based on knowledge and experience, Zephyr selects the strategy most appropriate for a specific opportunity, whether it be a public or private equity strategy.
